Frequently Asked Questions

We know there are a lot of details to consider when entrusting your child's care to a new school. We've included here many of the questions that we field most often. Don't hesitate to contact us if you don't find the answers you're looking for here.

  • Alaya has a scholarship fund that fluctuates from year to year based on the success of our fundraising efforts. The fund is need based, and is accessible only after families have determined whether or not they qualify for County and City child care assistance programs. If your family is ineligible for CCCAP, GAP or Cliff funding, please contact the office to inquire about Alaya’s scholarship fund.

  • Yes, to an extent. All classroom snacks are prepared in a shared kitchen, which is not safe for severely allergic students. However, we have had many families over the years who provide allergy-safe snacks for their own children and teachers are always aware of each child’s dietary needs. Please contact the office if you would like to discuss your child’s unique needs.

  • Children in their Garuda year have a Spanish class once a week for a monthly charge of $15.00.

  • No. Although Alaya was originally founded by a spiritual community of Western Buddhist families in the 1970’s, we are not a religious institution.

  • Please see the 2022-23 Parent Handbook for the most up-to-date information.

  • Alaya Preschool is a division of Naropa University, so all tuition payments, fees and donations made to Alaya will show on your statement as being to Naropa University.

  • Yes! Not only will your gift be 100% deductible on your federal income tax return, your donation to Alaya (the general fund or our endowment) may entitle you to a Colorado state income tax credit of 50% of your total contribution under Colorado's Child Care Contribution Tax Credit Program. For example, if you donated $1,000 to Alaya Preschool you could receive a $500 credit on your state taxes, essentially cutting the cost of your gift in half.

Please note, donations to Alaya go through Naropa University, which is a nonprofit (Tax ID Number: 84-1029228). You will see a charge from Naropa University (not Alaya) if you use a credit card to donate online.
